Serving the Community and the World for Fifty-Five Years
The Sydney Academy Key Club is a student-led service organization which has served the school, the community, and the world for fifty-five years. Our club is one of many Key Clubs located around the globe. A division of Kiwanis International, Key Club is both the oldest and the largest service program for high school students.
Our Key Club contributes to local, national, and international charities and non-profit organisations in a variety of ways, with a special focus on the Eliminate Project, a partnership between UNICEF and Kiwanis International which works to combat maternal and neonatal tetanus.
We are also involved with many local causes. Some of our most recent community-based projects include our highly successful 2nd Annual SA Key Club Art Auction for Feed Nova Scotia (held in December 2014), a fundraiser for the Atlantic Burn Camp (held in October 2014), and a charity coffee house for the Whitney Pier Youth Club, which is quickly becoming an annual tradition.
In addition to fundraisers and benefit events, we contribute to the local community by volunteering. Our members volunteer regularly at Loaves and Fishes, which provides hot meals to community members in need. Sydney Academy Key Club members have also volunteered with Doctors Nova Scotia, the Canadian Diabetes Association, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, and the Youth Peer Mentoring Program, just to name a few.
We also perform service on the international level, participating in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF each year to fundraise for Project Eliminate.
If you are a Sydney Academy student interested in joining us, we meet on Wednesday in room 207, Ms. Beaton's room, from 3:00 to 3:30 PM. We would love to see you there! If you have any questions, please contact one of our executive officers (see above) or our club adviser, Ms. Beaton. You can also reach us by e-mail in the contact section of our website and you can find us on Facebook and Tumblr.
